Museum Design Sprint

March 1, 2018 | TUCSON, AZ | Registration | Agenda

Spend a day with your museum team tackling a pesky challenge your museum faces. Discover innovation tools and strategies from lean startup and design thinking while improving your craft through hands-on application as you take on your design challenge.
At the Design Sprint you WON’T…
  • You won’t sit and get.
  • You won’t have wasted down time.
  • You won’t rehash the same ideas.
  • You won’t get talk with no do.
What WILL you get?
  • You’ll have fun and eat well.
  • You’ll step out of the daily grind.
  • You’ll have deep learning moments.
  • You’ll develop your design thinking skills.
  • You’ll head home with an action plan.

Because the cornerstone of any innovative initiative is collaboration, we price our retreats to encourage team participation and institutional leadership development. Individual attendees are welcome, but teams are highly encouraged.

8:30 – Breakfast from Cartel Coffee LabDelicious!

9:00 – Start Where You Are – Finding new approaches to address itchy problems is a fundamental objective of design thinking…and the best place to start is by asking questions. Learn to define and tackle tough problems with strategies from appreciative inquiry and participatory design.

10:30 – Empathy + Respect — Design thinking starts with empathy, but it takes more than “perspective taking” to work together toward new approaches and solutions. Respect and opportunity are the foundation of creative confidence.

11:30 – Listen and Learn — We all have different perspectives, different wants and needs. Use deep listening to help you connect with stakeholders and design better solutions.

12:15 – Lunch

1:15 – Ideate! — Learn to harness the power of ideation by scaffolding the process and building creative confidence by stretching beyond the typical and the obvious to design equitable solutions.

3:00 – Empirical Creativity – Don’t waste your time and money on solutions that might not work. Go lean. Develop prototypes and experiments to help you learn and refine with minimal resource investment.

4:15 – I like, I wish, What if…? – Gallery walk and connect!
